about

On January 28th, 2013 I participated in a songwriting challenge with a group of friends. The challenge was to write and record 20 songs in 12 hours; no previous ideas, no already thought out lyrics, no over-thinking.

From 8am-8pm I did my best to crank out 20 songs with an equal mix of quality, speed, and trying to create something new while having a great time. I only ended up with 10 songs (the amount that mostly everyone ended up with), and at the end of the night we all met up to share the fruits of our labor.

In a world of entertainment that seems to demand "perfection" or nothing, I thought it would be fun to release the songs for my fans to see and example what can be created given a small period of time under total intention, the clock, and digging deep.

I wanted to present the group of songs in as representative a fashion as they were created. Here they are in the order they were written and unedited from the final product I turned in under the deadline. Also, under the individual song links I wrote a little blurb about what inspired them.

Some songs I really enjoy and look forward to rewriting into a more polished form, and others...not so much. You'll be able to hear cool moments, parts played wrong, songs unfinished arrangement wise, rough vocals, and for me, a few unexpected favorite vocal lines I've ever come up with. It was a huge learning experience, and I recommend it for any one no matter what your art from is.

And yep, this is unmastered so you may have to turn it up a little bit higher volume wise than music you're used to listening too. That's part of the deal...

I hope you enjoy the demos, and if a song hits you either way as a new favorite or "Kyle, please never play this again", I'd love to know.

Thanks for taking the time to listen and for being a fan!
