about

"Hello, Hello" was the first album we recorded with local Seattle producer Steve Adamek in 2001.

We started caring more about what we wore on stage, made sure every note was questioned and meant something, and got pretty in our heads as to what music meant to us/what wanted to convey to others. Looking back, we went to far in some ways...we were really trying hard to become what we teased as "Navy Seals of Rock". We felt like as 21 year-old people we had a good body of work behind us but were still developing into what we wanted to be as a band.

This album to me is more about groove than anything else. I remember being really attracted to music at this time that was beat-oriented, and though there's nothing resembling hip-hop at all here, I can hear what I was trying to get at in new ways of how a song can make you feel from the beat alone.

I really like "Holding You" on this E.P., and if you can hear it, was directly influenced by a section of a Matchbox 20 song at the time in the guitar call-and-response of the verse.

All the music on the radio in 2001 was either boy-bands, or clean and safe AAA rock. Some of that rubbed off on "Holding You", but then you can hear the rebellion to that in "Back To The Sea" and the punky "Hello, Hello". Good times!
