about

This is what I consider the first "proper" release from Laymans Terms, meaning we did this in a real studio, over-dubs, etc.

"Reinvention" was recorded during senior year of high-school over winter break, and every day we'd wake up around 8:00 am, drive an hour to Tacoma, and then record till 11:00 pm in a freezing studio that smelled like cigars and trash...but we loved it.

I remember driving home the last day with the newly minted master copy of the album flashing my headlights with the beat...until the car in-font of us slowed down next to us and looked like they were gonna kill our call full of adrenaline-riddled teenagers. We were 18 and losing our minds after making our first real rock album...and we wanted everyone to know it.

After releasing the album and over the next 6-months that was left of our high-school career, we became the biggest local buzz-band of the public high-school system. We felt like triumphant rock heroes in our small fishbowl and we loved every minute of it. Looking back, it was a magical time that eventually led to us winning the local school mag "Mirror Magazine" Battle-Of-The-Bands which snagged us an opening slot at Bumbershoot 1998.

There are lots of different sounds on this album; from the fan-favorite "Ovaltine" to the tribal sounds of "Face Of God". My favorite still to this day is "Bittersweet November"; a song about not being able to express feelings I had for one of my best friends at the time. Ah, high school...
